Asif Ali Zardari has once again risen to the pinnacle of Pakistan’s political landscape by clinching victory in the 2024 presidential election. This remarkable win marks his second tenure as the President of Pakistan, making him one of the few leaders in the nation’s history to achieve this feat.

THE ROAD TO VICTORY

The journey to Zardari’s triumph was not a straightforward path. Competing against Mahmood Khan Achakzai, the candidate from the PTI-backed SIC alliance, Zardari’s victory underscores a significant shift in the country’s political dynamics. The election, characterized by fervent campaigning and rigorous political strategies, ultimately culminated in Zardari’s favor, signifying the trust and hope the populace places in his leadership for steering the nation toward progress and stability.

Zardari’s win was especially notable in the Senate and National Assembly, where he received a total of 255 votes compared to Achakzai’s 91 votes. Despite not securing the majority in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Assembly, where Zardari obtained 17 votes against Achakzai’s 91, his performance in other provincial assemblies was overwhelmingly positive. In Punjab, Zardari received a staggering 246 votes, significantly outperforming Achakzai who secured 100 votes.

Furthermore, Zardari’s ability to sweep votes in the Sindh Assembly, obtaining 151 votes against Achakzai’s nine, and achieving a unanimous victory in the Balochistan Assembly, where all 47 votes cast were in his favor, underscores his widespread acceptance and the strength of his political base. These results not only signify a major win for Zardari and the PPP but also reflect the political landscape and alliances within Pakistan, indicating a robust support system for Zardari’s leadership and vision for the country as he prepares to take on the presidency once again.
