In Monday’s interbank session, the Pakistani Rupee (PKR) depreciated by 16.18 paisa against the US dollar, settling at PKR 278.5 per USD compared to the previous session’s closing of PKR 278.34 per USD. The currency reached an intraday high (bid) of 278.75 and a low (ask) of 278.55.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 278.00 for buying and 280.00 for selling.

Against major currencies, the PKR experienced mixed performance:

• Euro: PKR gained 13.07 paisa, closing at 301.92 compared to 302.05.
• British Pound: The pound became cheaper by 1.25 rupees, closing at 356.95 from 358.21.
• Swiss Franc: The franc saw losses of 36.93 paisa, closing at 314.78 compared to 315.15.
• Japanese Yen: PKR lost 0.29 paisa, closing at 1.8106 versus 1.8077.
• Chinese Yuan: The yuan lost 1.02 paisa, closing at 38.38 against 38.39.
• Saudi Riyal: Closed at 74.24 with a gain of 4.51 paisa from 74.19.
• U.A.E Dirham: Increased in value by 4.41 paisa from 75.82 to 75.78.

During the current financial year, PKR has depreciated against the dollar by 15.88 paisa or 0.06%, while the current calendar year has seen PKR appreciate by 3.36 rupees or 1.21%.

In the money market, the benchmark 6-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates inched down by 3 bps to 19.13% and 19.38%.
