The Pakistani rupee (PKR) experienced a slight depreciation of 8.06 paisa against the US dollar in Wednesday’s interbank session, settling at PKR 278.26 per USD compared to the previous session’s closing of PKR 278.18 per USD. Throughout the session, the currency fluctuated between an intraday high (bid) of 278.55 and a low (ask) of 278.25.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 276.93 for buying and 279.45 for selling.

Against other major currencies, PKR’s performance varied:

  • Euro: PKR lost 1.31 rupees, closing at 301.25 compared to the previous value of 299.94.
  • British Pound: Became expensive by 1.9 rupees, closing at 350.45 compared to 348.55 from a day ago.
  • Swiss Franc: Saw gains of 1.12 rupees, closing at 307.36 compared to 306.24 from the previous session.
  • Japanese Yen: PKR lost 0.5 paisa, closing at 1.7827 versus 1.7777 a day ago.
  • Chinese Yuan: Gained 8.44 paisa, closing at 38.52 against 38.44 from the previous session.
  • Saudi Riyal: Closed at 74.2 with a gain of 2.15 paisa from its value of 74.17 a day ago.
  • U.A.E Dirham: Increased in value by 2.09 paisa from 75.76 a day ago to 75.74.

During the current financial year, PKR has appreciated against the US Dollar by 7.73 rupees or 2.78%. In the current calendar year, PKR has appreciated by 3.6 rupees or 1.29%.

In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates remained unchanged at 21.31% and 21.56%.
