The Pakistani rupee (PKR) depreciated by 13.38 paisa or 0.05% against the US dollar in Monday’s interbank session. The trade settled at PKR 278.7 per USD, compared to the previous closing of PKR 278.57.

CURRENCY PERFORMANCE THROUGHOUT THE DAY

Throughout the day, the rupee saw an intraday high (bid) of 278.90 and a low (ask) of 278.70. In the open market, the dollar was quoted at PKR 279.10 for buying and PKR 280.94 for selling.

PKR’S PERFORMANCE AGAINST MAJOR CURRENCIES

  • Euro: PKR gained 1.37 rupees, closing at PKR 308.21 compared to PKR 309.58.
  • British Pound: The rupee gained 1.97 rupees, closing at PKR 365.22 versus PKR 367.19.
  • Swiss Franc: PKR saw losses of 1.44 rupees, closing at PKR 329.37 compared to PKR 330.82.
  • Japanese Yen: PKR gained 0.74 paisa, closing at PKR 1.9475 versus PKR 1.9549.
  • Chinese Yuan: PKR lost 12.96 paisa, closing at PKR 39.19 compared to PKR 39.32.
  • Saudi Riyal: PKR gained 4.75 paisa, closing at PKR 74.26 from PKR 74.21.
  • U.A.E Dirham: PKR increased by 3.64 paisa, closing at PKR 75.84 from PKR 75.88.

YEAR-TO-DATE CURRENCY MOVEMENTS

During the current financial year, PKR has depreciated against the Dollar by 35.88 paisa or 0.13%. However, the current calendar year has seen the PKR appreciate by 3.16 rupees or 1.13%.

MONEY MARKET UPDATE

In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates inched down by 4 basis points to 17.51% and 17.76%, respectively.
