KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee (PKR) depreciated by 9.52 paisa against the US dollar during Tuesday’s interbank session, settling at PKR 278.39 per USD compared to the previous session’s closing of PKR 278.3 per USD. The currency experienced an intraday high (bid) of 278.6 and a low (ask) of 278.4.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at PKR 277.03 for buying and PKR 280.00 for selling.

Performance Against Major Currencies

  • Euro: PKR appreciated by 11.92 paisa, closing at PKR 302.47 compared to the previous value of PKR 302.59.
  • British Pound: The rupee depreciated by 64.97 paisa, closing at PKR 353.95 compared to PKR 353.3 from a day ago.
  • Swiss Franc: PKR saw a decline of 8.03 paisa, closing at PKR 305.86 compared to PKR 305.94 from the previous session.
  • Japanese Yen: The rupee gained 0.51 paisa, closing at PKR 1.782 versus PKR 1.7871 a day ago.
  • Chinese Yuan: The rupee lost 2.28 paisa, closing at PKR 38.46 against PKR 38.48 from the previous session.
  • Saudi Riyal: PKR appreciated by 2.94 paisa, closing at PKR 74.23 compared to its value of PKR 74.2 a day ago.
  • U.A.E Dirham: The rupee increased by 2.59 paisa, closing at PKR 75.77 from PKR 75.79 a day ago.

Year-to-Date Performance

During the current financial year, the PKR has appreciated against the dollar by 7.6 rupees, or 2.73%. For the current calendar year, the PKR has appreciated by 3.47 rupees, or 1.25%.

Money Market

In the money market, the benchmark 6-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates (KIBOR) slightly decreased by 1 basis point to 21.01% and 21.26%, respectively.
