PAKISTANI RUPEE EXCHANGE RATES: The Pakistani rupee (PKR) appreciated by 4.95 paisa or 0.02% against the US dollar during Wednesday’s interbank trading session, closing at PKR 277.64 per USD, compared to the previous close of 277.69. Throughout the day, the rupee saw an intraday high (bid) of 277.7 and a low (ask) of 277.6.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at PKR 278.5 for buying and PKR 280 for selling.

Against major currencies, the PKR showed mixed performance. It gained PKR 1.32 against the Euro, closing at 307.32 from 308.64, and appreciated by PKR 1.43 against the British Pound, ending at 368.97 compared to 370.39 a day earlier. The Swiss Franc also saw gains, with the PKR closing at 328.35, up by 79.37 paisa from the previous session’s 327.56.

However, the PKR slightly lost ground against the Japanese Yen, closing at 1.9277, down 0.17 paisa from 1.926. The Chinese Yuan dropped marginally by 0.71 paisa to 39.56 from 39.57. The Saudi Riyal depreciated by 4.18 paisa, closing at 73.97 from 74.02, while the UAE Dirham saw a slight dip of 1.35 paisa, ending at 75.6 from 75.59.

During the current financial year, the PKR has appreciated by 70.38 paisa or 0.25% against the US dollar. Over the current calendar year, it has strengthened by PKR 4.22 or 1.52%.

In the money market, the benchmark 6-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates (KIBOR) edged down by 7 basis points, closing at 14.77% and 15.02%, respectively.
