In Monday’s interbank session, the Pakistani rupee (PKR) underwent a slight depreciation of 2.77 paisa against the US dollar, settling the trade at PKR 278.24 per USD, compared to the previous session’s closing of PKR 278.21 per USD.
Throughout the trading day, the currency saw fluctuations, reaching an intraday high (bid) of 278.45 and a low (ask) of 278.25.
Last week, the local unit had experienced a gain of 18 paisa against the USD.
In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 276.73 for buying and 279.38 for selling.
Comparatively, against major currencies, PKR experienced fluctuations:
- Against the Euro, PKR lost 58.62 paisa, closing at 299.44 compared to the previous value of 298.85.
- The British Pound became more expensive by 36.87 paisa, closing at 349.7 compared to 349.33 from the previous day.
- The Swiss franc witnessed gains of 79.24 paisa, closing at 307.33 compared to 306.53 from the previous session.
- PKR gained 0.6 paisa against the Japanese Yen, closing at 1.809 versus 1.815 a day ago.
- The Chinese Yuan gained 13.7 paisa, closing at 38.56 against 38.42 from the previous session.
- The Saudi Riyal closed at 74.18 with a gain of 0.74 paisa from its value of 74.18 a day ago.
- The U.A.E Dirham increased in value by 0.65 paisa from 75.75 a day ago to 75.75.
During the current financial year, PKR has appreciated against the Dollar by 7.75 rupees or 2.79%. In the current calendar year, PKR has appreciated by 3.62 rupees or 1.3%.
In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates remained unchanged at 21.35% and 21.6%.
