WHAT IS AN INDEX?

An index is a method to track the performance of a group of assets in a standardized way. Indexes typically measure the performance of a basket of securities intended to replicate a certain area of the market.

 

KSE100 INDEX PAKISTAN STOCK EXHCANGE

 

The Pakistan Stock Exchange formerly known as Karachi Stock Exchange – KSE-100 Index comprises the top company from each of the 34 sectors on the PSX, in terms of market capitalization. The rest of the companies are picked on market cap ranking, without any consideration for the sector to make a sample of 100 common stocks with base value 1,000. This is a total return index.

This is the most recognized index of PSX which includes the largest companies on the basis of market capitalization. KSE 100 Index stocks has a representation of all the market sectors of PSX. The Index represents 85% of all the market capitalization of the Exchange. It is calculated using Free Float Market Capitalization methodology.

KSE 30 Index includes the top 30 most liquid companies listed on PSX based on Free Float methodology.

KMI 30 INDEX

KSE Meezan Index (KMI–30) is a stock marker index in the Pakistan Stock Exchange in Pakistan of thirty companies that have been screened for Islamic Shariah Criteria. The index was introduced in 2009 and the base period for this Islamic index is 30 June 2008. It was created as a joint effort by the Karachi Stock Exchange (now known as Pakistan Stock Exchange) and Meezan Bank Limited formerly known as Al-Meezan Investment Bank.

The index is calculated using free float market capitalization. At any point in time, the level of the index reflects the free float market value of selected Shariah-compliant shares in comparison with the base period. KMI-30 is recomposed semi-annually.

KSE ALL SHARE INDEX

The KSE All-Share Index is the Karachi Stock Exchange’s Islamic index. This index is a combination of all three stock exchanges in Pakistan. It is thought that this index was the primary step in the sustained development of the Islamic Capital Markets. Consists of all listed companies on PSX based on Full Cap methodology.

OIL AND GAS TRADABLE SECTOR INDEX (OGTI)

The Tradable Oil & Gas Index tracks at least 80% free-float market capitalization of the Oil & Gas Sector.
