The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has concluded its hearing on K-Electric’s petition for a provisional monthly fuel charge adjustment (FCA) of Rs0.51 per unit for August 2024. Following the public hearing, NEPRA will issue a decision clarifying the exact FCA amount to be applied to customer bills and the timeframe for implementation.

In contrast, K-Electric had requested an FCA increase of Rs3.09 per unit for July 2024. The hearing for this adjustment was held on August 29, and a decision is still pending on the final amount and the month it will be reflected in customer bills.

The August FCA request shows a net decrease of Rs2.58 per unit compared to July’s requested adjustment, signaling a significant reduction.

Fuel charge adjustments are made by utilities to account for global fluctuations in fuel prices and changes in the energy generation mix. After NEPRA’s scrutiny and approval, these adjustments are reflected in customer bills. Consumers may also benefit from a negative FCA when global fuel prices drop.
