The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced the operation, revealing that the strikes involved a combination of killer drones, rockets, loitering munitions, and stand-off weapons. Pakistan’s military carried out precision strikes in Iran on January 18, 2024, targeting hideouts used by terrorist groups responsible for recent attacks within Pakistan.
According to the ISPR press release, the intelligence-based operation, codenamed ‘Marg Bar Sarmachar,’ successfully targeted hideouts utilized by notorious terrorists affiliated with groups such as the Balochistan Liberation Army and Balochistan Liberation Front. Among the individuals targeted were Dosta (alias Chairman), Bajjar (alias Soghat), Sahil (alias Shafaq), Asghar (alias Basham), and Wazir (alias Wazi).
Pakistan’s Foreign Office stated that the precise military strikes were a response to terrorist hideouts in the Siestan-o-Baluchistan province of Iran. The operation aimed to neutralize threats and prevent further attacks on Pakistani soil.
Iranian media reported that several missiles struck a village in the province bordering Pakistan, resulting in the tragic deaths of three women and four children, all non-Iranians. This incident followed Iran’s violation of Pakistani airspace, which resulted in the tragic loss of two children and injuries to three girls.
DIPLOMACY
The ISPR emphasised that communication and cooperation are crucial in resolving bilateral issues between Pakistan and Iran, even in the wake of the military operation. Finally, the media wing of the military restated their commitment to working with the Pakistani people to defeat all of Pakistan’s enemies.
In order to preserve regional stability, diplomatic solutions are crucial, and this escalation highlights the complicated dynamics between the two neighbouring nations.
