Northwest China was struck by a strong 6.2 magnitude earthquake that left a path of devastation and many casualties. Moments before midnight on Monday, there was seismic activity in the mountainous Gansu Province. The earthquake caused major damages claiming scores of lives.
LOSSES AND EFFECTS:
At least 100 people died as a result of the earthquake, which was centred in Gansu Province. An additional 11 people were reported killed in nearby Qinghai Province.
The extensive damage, which included thousands of homes, roads, and vital infrastructure like electricity and plumbing lines, was highlighted by the local media.
THE RESCUE OPERATION:
Authorities sent loads of rescue workers and dozens of ambulances to the affected areas in response to the disaster.
The number of people getting treatment for different injuries surged to 300 as of Tuesday morning, 6:30 am, as reported by the Global Times.
XI JINPING:
Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for a “all-out search and rescue effort” in order to minimise casualties and guarantee the safety of lives and property.

Pakistan’s Caretaker P.M. offered his condolences through his twitter handle. “Our sympathies are with our Chinese brothers and sisters in this hour of grief.”
