UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on April 26 and 28 respectively.

UN spokesman has said, Guterres will visit Moscow on April 26 and have a working meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

During his trip to Ukraine, Guterres will also have a working meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and meet with staff of UN agencies to discuss the scaling up of humanitarian assistance to Ukrainian people.

This comes in a time when US President Joe Biden pledged 800 million dollars in more weaponry for Ukraine.

Addressing Americans from the White House’s Roosevelt Room, he also announced 500 million dollars in direct economic assistance to the Ukrainian government.

The announcement to this effect was made by Russia’s Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu saying that Moscow has got control over the strategically important port city of Mariupol, apart from the vast Azovstal steel plant where Ukrainian troops are holding out.


Meanwhile, President Vladimir Putin has lauded Russian forces for seizing control of Mariupol city and ordered the military to refrain from storming a steel plant instead besieging it, so that no one can escape.

On the other hand, Ukraine has called for opening an immediate humanitarian corridor to allow civilians and wounded soldiers to be evacuated from steel plant.

Israel carried out air strikes in central Gaza after a rocket launched from the Palestinian territory landed in Israel.

In a statement, Israeli military said two training camps used by Hamas were hit.

Meanwhile, Hamas said Israel’s bombing will only encourage Palestinians to resist the occupation and step up their support for Jerusalem and its people.

Earlier, the Arab League called on Israel to end Jewish prayers inside the compound of Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem and warned that it is a flagrant affront to Muslim feelings that could trigger wider conflict.

Meanwhile, at least thirty-one Palestinians were injured in clashes with Israeli police at Al-Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem today.

The World Power United States, Champions of Democracy, have also been asked for help by the Palestinians.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has urged the United States to intervene to stop Israeli escalations in the Palestinian territories, mainly in East Al-Quds.

He made the request in a meeting with US Acting Assistant Secretary of State Yael Lambert and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Israel and Palestinian Affairs Hady Amr in the West Bank city of Ramallah.

The US diplomats visited Israel, Jordan and the West Bank in a bid to end the tension in the West Bank and Al-Quds.
